The dark days before Christmas: why meaning is our ultimate strength

The dark days before Christmas: why meaning is our ultimate strength

A personal reflection on beauty, entrepreneurship, and steadfastness

The final weeks of the year always feel special. The days get shorter, the world slows down a bit and at the same time, it’s precisely during this period that we become more aware of what was, what’s coming… and what is *now*. Because between looking back and looking forward lies an important question: how are we actually dealing with this moment?

For me, that starts with finding purpose. Not as a flippant concept, but as a practical, powerful motivation to deal with life's inevitable setbacks in a positive way. Finding purpose provides direction, even when the valley is deep. And yes, people often say to me: “It’s easy for you to say.” How so?

You always have two choices: dwell on what's going wrong or think in terms of opportunities and solutions.

I choose the latter. Not because it is easy, but because it moves me forward. Because it helps me stay the course, even when the outside world tempts me with fast trends or glittering success stories of others.

The Christmas spirit in a world of quick fixes

Christmas for me is about connection, warmth, and meaning. But also about looking honestly at the world we live in. In our industry, the world of beauty and skin health, two clear camps have now emerged:

Quick fixes

Sustainable Beauty

At MINK, we made a conscious choice years ago. A choice that sometimes seems to go against the grain, but is always the right one:

Pure and sustainable beauty, combined with well-being, purpose, and authentic skin health.

No shortcuts.

No tricks.

No gloss without substance.

That's who we are and that's also who I am.

Doing business in a time when everything seems to need to happen faster

The past year has once again taught me how important it is to follow your own compass. Not the market's. Not others“. And certainly not society's expectations like: ”You should have made it by the time you're 30 or 40."

Why is that?

Every generation, young, old, and everything in between, brings valuable perspectives. And this time doesn't call for a single linear success story; it calls for flexibility, reinvention, and staying true to yourself.

Even if you're 50 or 60.

Perhaps precisely then.

As an entrepreneur, you constantly face challenges. But with the right people around you, a clear vision, and a healthy dose of nerve, there's room to grow. In peace, in strength, in authenticity.

My message for this Christmas period

Don't be blinded by quick successes.

Don't be fooled into thinking you're too late.

Don't be tempted to abandon your course just because someone else's looks easier.

Meaning is not a luxury, it is a signpost.

En duurzame schoonheid begint bij een keuze: trouw blijven aan wat echt is. Aan jezelf, aan je waarden, aan je missie.

My wish for everyone during these dark days before Christmas: that you feel the strength to keep following your own path at your own pace, in your own way, in your own light.

Love,

Sandra
